How to Install a Channel Drain
- Dig: cut a trench along the low edge of the slab, driveway or patio.
- Assemble: snap the channels together and add the end cap and end outlet. Side or bottom outlets can go anywhere along the run.
- Connect: run drain pipe from the outlet to a safe discharge point.
- Set: bed the channel so the grate sits flush with the surface, then fasten the grates.

Where Does the Water Go?
A channel drain only collects water. Send it downhill to daylight or a storm drain, into a Flo-Well dry well when there is no outlet, or through a gravel-free EZ-Flow French drain. For low spots in the lawn, pair it with catch basins and yard drains.

Channel Drain FAQs
Is a channel drain the same as a trench drain?
Yes. The two names are used interchangeably for a long, narrow grated channel set flush with the surface to catch water along its whole length.
Can you drive over a channel drain?
It depends on the grate. The Pro Series kit with galvanized steel grates is NDS Class B medium duty, rated for autos and light trucks with pneumatic tires under 20 mph. The light-traffic plastic grates in the 9-pack are for patios, pool decks and walkways.
How much channel drain do I need?
Measure the edge you need to drain. Each Pro Series kit is 1 meter (about 3.3 ft), so a 3-pack covers about 9.8 ft and a 9-pack about 29.5 ft. The last channel can be cut down to as short as 4 in.
Can a channel drain go around a curve?
Yes. NDS Qwik-Turn 864 radius couplings snap between channels and rotate up to 6 degrees each, for bends as small as a 30 in. radius. For sharp 45 or 90 degree corners, NDS makes separate elbows.
