How a Complete Drainage System Fits Together

  1. Collect: catch basins and channel drains capture surface water.
  2. Carry: drain pipe or an EZ-Flow French drain moves it downhill at a 1% minimum slope.
  3. Release: send it to daylight, a storm drain, or a Flo-Well dry well that returns it to the soil.

Drainage FAQs

What is the difference between a yard drain and a catch basin?

A yard drain is any grated inlet that takes surface water into a pipe. A catch basin is a yard drain with a box and a sump: debris settles in the sump instead of clogging your drain pipe.

Do you need gravel for a French drain?

Not with a gravel-free system. NDS EZ-Flow uses Poly-Rock aggregate around a slotted pipe, so there is no stone to haul.

What is a dry well?

An underground chamber that stores runoff and lets it soak into the soil. The NDS Flo-Well holds about 50 gallons without gravel inside.

Which drain do I need for a driveway or patio?

A channel drain. NDS Pro Series channels run along the edge of hard surfaces and send water to a pipe.
